Last night Chartio attended the Big Data Startup Day meet up at the Westin St. Francis. The event kicked off the Data Visualization Summit happening today and tomorrow, which includes talks from data viz gurus such as Andy Kriebel of Facebook, Krist Wongsuphasawat of Twitter, Mohammad Shahangian of Pinterest and Mathieu Bastian of LinkedIn, among others.
At the meet up, Chartio presented alongside the following startups:
- ProfitBricks - a cloud computing 2.0 company
- Zipfian Academy - an intensive 12-week program located in San Francisco aimed to cultivate the knowledge and skills necessary to become proficient in data science
- HabitID - an authenticating technology based on typing cadence
- Level7 - a technology and advertising agency that provides tools and expertise to organizations so that they can define their big data strategy to give them a financial edge, increase loyalty and an overall competitive advantage
While everyone's presentations were interesting, we were most excited about Zipfian Academy and the work they are going to do here in San Francisco to help educate the future generation of data scientists. Their first class kicks off in September and they are currently taking applications. They only accept 14 or so students so if you are interested, apply early. On another note, Zipfian Academy is looking for data experts and data companies to get involved by speaking at classes, sponsoring students and/or providing data sets. We are looking forward to following Zipfian Academy's success here in San Francisco and also helping out as much as possible.
